Liberating Ourselves From Fear

I challenge you to vote and liberate yourself from fear. Feel the fear, vote, slip your feet into your Nike’s and Just Do It Anyway!

Brian Tracy stated in his book ‘Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life’ there are only two real fears and our entire lives, thinking, motivation, actions and experiences are the result of responding to these fears. The fear of failure or loss and the fear of criticism or rejection. What happened for you whenever you bought into these fears any time in the past? Did you consider how debilitating and impactful they were on getting what you want?

A recent event brought Brian’s statement to the forefront of my mind. When I considered ‘what shall I start writing about on my first very own personal website’, my mind went completely blank momentarily – an occurence I found to be a very interesting phenomenon as I’m not normally stuck for something to say even in written format moreover that I have too much to say and need to cull rather than expand. Ever had this happen to you? I’d bet it has! So, why and how could this happen?

I had seen it often in people I coached and mentored over the years when I called them to account on steppin’ out of their comfort zone to publicly speak and into the light to shine in all their glory. As a seasoned public speaker myself I hadn’t experienced this freezing sensation since I first stepped out on a stage over 20 years ago so how come my mind went blank when all I had to do was to simply write a post and put it up on a website? Oh such an easy task! Or is it?

The difference between my public speaking career and my own personal website swept through me with absolute clarity … I had to SHOW UP! Me! Myself! I – in all my glory! Not me fronting someone else’s company, product, or concept doing a presentation but rather that I was putting ME up to the World to see and hear … someone who YOU my potential readers may be interested in seeking answers and/or information from … someone you may consider to be an inspirational leader worth following her footsteps in the sand … someone you would buy products and services from. Bottom line … SHOW UP, warts and all, believe in myself and let you see the true me shining bright .

How many of you out there in the ether of cyberspace felt this way too? How did you feel taking the deep breath bracing yourself before you took the leap of faith into facing your fears and just doing it anyway? Was it exhilarating? Or more the pensive feeling of “OMG why am I doing this?”

To help you on your journey through the fear and out into the joy only you can bring to the World, here’s a very inspirational and thought provoking quote from Marianne Williamson (internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher and author’) and excerpt from her book ‘Return to Love’ …

Our Deepest Fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

What can you do today to shine your light?

How bright can you shine?

All it takes is the first step … VOTE! Deep breath, strap on your Nike’s and you are off and running.

P.S. Remember to wave and say hello as you run up alongside me.
